Day 1... Training

Today was a beautiful day in Metz. The air is crisp and cool and it is very much Fall here. Lots of colors and we are glad that we have our jackets. Metz is chock full of Maple Trees! We feel particularly welcome.

There are Maple Leaves everywhere and we keep trying to find that perfect one. Like snowflakes they're all different.
We went for a walk around the hotel for a little while this morning before heading to the venue for lunch and our 1st training. This is a wonderful small city. The area is fascinating we found plates in the cobble-stones that led us to a dragon hanging over a street. Later we learned that legend says that the first people in Metz were turned to God by a Saint intervening on their behalf against a dragon that ravaged the area.
We visited the Cathedral de St Etienne which was fascinating, very beautiful, and immense. Awe inspiring in fact. We toured the crypts which are now a sort of museum. Fantastic what people can accomplish when they really, really care about what they are trying to do.

Training was excellent. The equipment is great and the Canadian Team looked very professional. Julie's ankle has recovered from the travelling quite well so far. Tomorrow will be even better. She easily did all mounts to a mat and two of her 4 dismounts. She looks clean and tight and nailed a 822o at the front of the box which lifted Brett's eye-brows. Corissa was healthy, fit, and excited. She did all four passes in the warm-up gym which was more than we had asked... and then came out and did all 4 again in the comp gym. Compliments came from all around.

I think that we might have scared the other athletes who were watching...

We are having a blast so far and have enjoyed most everything.

By the way French Pastries deserve their rep. Gillian just about decided to move to France on the spot!
